PLEASE READ THIS NOTICE CAREFULLY AND KEEP A COPY FOR YOUR RECORDS.
Our understanding of each individual customer is the foundation for all of the services we provide and offer. The better we know you, the better we can serve your financial needs. We want you to fully understand the information we collect about you and our guidelines for sharing that information with others. We also want to offer you choices. Choices about limiting the sharing of that information, as well as future informational contacts we may wish to make with you. Where we get information Most of the information we collect about you comes directly from you - for example, the answers you provide on your new account form, such as your income, assets or loans. Information may also come from other applications, agreements or forms you complete to receive our products and services. In addition, we maintain records of each of your transactions and holdings at RBC Bank. We also may receive information about you from companies affiliated with RBC Bank. We are part of a group of companies known as RBC, comprised of Royal Bank of Canada and its subsidiaries. RBC is one of the largest and most sophisticated providers of financial products and services in the world. If you are a customer of another RBC company, we may receive information about you from that source. In addition, we may obtain information about you, such as your credit history or other facts relating to credit worthiness, from a consumer-reporting agency or from other parties. If you are applying for an insurance product or service, we may also collect medical and health information from you (for example, information related to your past or present physical health or condition) or from others (e.g., your health care provider) to determine your eligibility for the insurance. However, we will only collect such medical and health information with your consent. To whom we disclose the information We do not sell information about our current or former customers and do not disclose such information to third parties, except as permitted by law. Under this policy, we provide information to parties outside of RBC Bank in the following ways: -To other companies in the RBC family. These include providers of insurance, banking and securities services. We may share information about you within the RBC family to make available to you the full range of alternatives that a global financial services organization has to offer. -To other companies as necessary to process your business. For example, we transmit your account and transactional information to the company that prints your RBC Bank account statement. Service companies in this category are prohibited by agreement from using information about you except for the narrow purpose for which we gave it to them. -To companies who perform marketing or research services on our behalf or with whom we have joint marketing agreements. A company performing marketing services on our behalf would include, for example, a company that assists in a broad mailing of materials advertising our products or services. A company performing research on our behalf would include, for example, a company that assists us in evaluating our customer service quality. A joint marketing agreement is one where another financial institution offers a product or service jointly with RBC Bank, such as Visa* card access to your RBC Bank account. These companies, like those in the previous category, must limit their use of the information to the purpose for which it was provided. -Where otherwise required or permitted by law or regulation. Examples include responses to a subpoena, court order or regulatory demand. -As authorized by you. You may direct us to send your account statements and confirms to a third party. Special Safeguarding of Health Information (if applicable) Unless we are required to do so by law, if you have provided us with any personal medical or health information, we will not disclose or share this information with our corporate family members or third parties without your authorization, and only then to facilitate establishing the product or service you requested. You have choices We want to share the information we have about you with other RBC companies to enhance our ability to provide or offer you valuable services or products. Please remember we will continue to protect your personal information regardless of your choices. Sharing Information with the RBC Family Sharing certain types of information with our affiliates, such as information about our transaction and experiences with you, is useful for us to conduct business, and is permitted by law. Unless we are otherwise permitted by law, you may choose to inform us not to share other information you provide to us or that we receive from third parties with other RBC companies by calling us at 1-877-252-6611 and informing one of our agents about your choice to limit the sharing of information among affiliates. Informational Contacts We would like to continue keeping you informed of valuable services and products offered by RBC Bank or our affiliates. If you do not wish to be contacted about such offers, please call us at 1-877-252-6611 and inform one of our agents about your decision not to be contacted concerning such offers. Opt Out Decision If you previously indicated to us your opt out preference, you do not have to notify us again. A decision to opt out remains in effect until you advise us otherwise. You will continue to receive statement inserts and legal notifications regarding changes to your accounts, and our annual privacy notice mailings. You can make this choice now or at any time in the future. For customers holding joint accounts with us, we will accept a decision from either individual. This decision will apply to both parties named under the account or policy. Confidentiality and security We consider all information we have about you to be confidential, including the fact that you are an RBC Bank customer (unless you tell us otherwise). Your information will only be handled in the manner described in this notice. Within RBC Bank, we restrict access to information about you to those employees and authorized agents who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to maintain the confidentiality of your information. We also regularly assess new technology and developments in this area and upgrade these safeguards as appropriate.
