Switch Assist

SwitchAssist makes it easy to move your financial accounts to RBC Bank.

Use this checklist to get started.

Your First Steps:

  • Make a list of all the accounts you'd like to switch to RBC Bank.
  • Open a new checking account at RBC Bank.
  • Apply for a new RBC Bank credit card (subject to credit approval).
  • Complete the SwitchAssist letters and forms that apply to you and follow the instructions for submitting them.

Keep Account Information:

Keep your old checking account open until you're sure all checks and debit card transactions have cleared. Make sure you leave enough in the account to cover any automatic payments you expect to come through before your changes are put into effect.

Send Written Notices:

  • Send written notice or visit your current bank to close your accounts.
  • Send written notice to your employer to change the bank and account numbers for where your Direct Deposit is sent.
  • Send written notice to any government agency that makes Direct Deposits to your account.
  • Send written notice to companies that automatically withdraw payments from your current checking account (utilities, telephone company, insurance companies, mortgage company, internet service provider, banks, etc.) to notify them of your new bank and account numbers.

Automatic Payments:

Make a list of all the automatic payments you currently have deducted from your account and the dates these transactions occur. Remember to include deductions that don't occur on a regular monthly basis.

Automatic Transfers:

Set up automatic transfers between your new RBC Bank accounts (from checking to savings).

CDs:

To avoid early withdrawal penalties on your Certificates of Deposit, verify maturity dates before transferring to RBC Bank.

Credit Card Balance Transfer:

Complete and return the Credit Card Balance Transfer form to your local RBC Bank office to transfer balances from other credit cards to your new RBC Bank card.

Retirement Accounts:

If you have retirement accounts that you'd like to move to RBC Bank - such as 401(k)s at past employers - just stop by a banking center and talk to one of our financial specialists.

Mortgages and Other Loans:

Ask one of our financial specialists to review your mortgage and other personal loan arrangements and let you know if you can refinance at more favorable rates.
