Donation Brings Bank’s Total Giving to Nonprofit in Past 5 Years to More than $95,000

Raleigh, N.C. - June 6, 2011 – At a recent ceremony at the RBC Bank Plaza lobby in downtown Raleigh, representatives of RBC Bank presented Teach For America with a donation of $10,000. Brittany Tharrington, a 2011 Teach For America teacher who will begin working in Nashville, Tenn., this fall, and her mom Rita Kuhn, who is an RBC Bank employee in Rocky Mount, were on-hand for the check presentation to Robert Orr, development director for Teach For America.

Founded in 1990, Teach for America today has more than 8,200 first- and second-year Teach For America teachers working in 39 urban and rural regions across the country. These teachers, called corps members, commit two years to the program. Since its launch, Teach For America has reached more than three million students, and the teaching corps network has grown to more than 28,000 individuals, becoming one of the nation's largest providers of teachers for low-income communities and a recognized pipeline of leaders committed to educational equity and excellence.

RBC Bank has long been a strong supporter of the organization, giving $95,600 over the past five years, providing executive leadership to the local Teach For America boards, and welcoming incoming Nash/Edgecombe Teach For America corps members to meals and networking opportunities with bank employees.

“On behalf of RBC Bank, I am pleased to present this check and to offer our continued support of this outstanding organization,” said David Reid, regional manager for RBC Bank. “I am also pleased to congratulate Brittany Kuhn for her selection as a Teach For America corps member. This is a very competitive process, being chosen is a high honor, and you have made all of us proud.”
