Atlanta, G.A. - May 13, 2011 – RBC Bank honored six teachers in the Atlanta area and presented each with a $500 award Thursday evening as part of its eighth annual Tribute to Teachers program. This spring, the RBC Bank Tribute to Teachers Award is being presented to 50 school teachers in six states who have demonstrated exceptional community leadership.

Atlanta area Tribute to Teachers spring award winners and highlights from their individual nominations:

  • Teresa Casey, Walton High School, Marietta (Math): “All of her students love her, and she does her best to make sure learning is a pleasure.”
  • Linda Chinn, Woodland High School, Stockbridge (Spanish): “Her infectious personality always lifts my spirits and allows me to have a better outlook on my day. Senora Chinn deserves compensation for all her hard work, time, and commitment.”
  • Janie Jarrett, Riverstone Montessori Academy, Marietta (Association of Montessori International Certified Primary teacher): “Ever since my child started in her class, Ms. Janie has shown him so much. She is very caring and has a gift for knowing how to interact with children. Her approach creates a thirst for independence, responsibility, and confidence in a child.”
  • Erin Powell, South Forsyth High School, Cumming (English): “Mrs. Powell had a very significant impact on my education while I attended high school. I was sick for the last two years of high school and she made trips out to my house 2-3 times a week to proctor exams as well as to bring me homework assignments.”
  • Tonya Rouben, Susan Stripling Elementary School, Norcross (5th Grade): “She is generous. She is helpful, appreciative, loving, caring, giving, amazing and my teacher. Mrs. Rouben is the best!”
  • Sarah Visel, Morris Brandon Elementary School, Atlanta (3rd Grade) “Mrs. Visel is the most enthusiastic teacher I have encountered as a parent of three children. She has a wonderful sense of humor and has a passion for teaching that encourages children.”

“Tribute to Teachers is a very important way that RBC Bank has chosen to show its appreciation for these outstanding teachers in our community,” said RBC Bank President Reggie Davis. “This year, more than ever, teachers find themselves having to do more with less. So, we are very glad also to be able to offer each of these winners the $500 awards that go with this recognition.”

Casey, Chinn, Jarrett, Powell, Rouben and Visel were selected for the Tribute to Teachers Award from more than 2,200 nominees throughout RBC Bank’s six-state Southeastern footprint (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia).
