RBC Bank Contributes $50,000 To Rocky Mount/Edgecombe Community Development Corporation

Current Gift Continues Bank’s History of Strong Support for Local Community Development Projects and Human Services Programs

Raleigh, N.C. – March 14, 2011 – RBC Bank has made a $50,000 contribution to the Rocky Mount/ Edgecombe Community Development Center in support of the organization’s Housing Development Center and its work. The non-profit group’s Housing Development Center is housed in a former RBC Bank branch made available by the bank to RMECDC in 2009. RBC Bank’s most recent donation of $50,000 is in addition to the bank’s $50,000 gift to the organization in 2010.

“These gifts of $100,000 in two years continue a legacy of leadership and support by RBC Bank that fuels the growth and health of our community,” said Joyce Dickens, president/CEO of RMECDC. “Now more than ever our organization looks to our partners in the private sector for help, and there is no question that RBC Bank is at the front of that line of corporate leaders making a huge difference here.”

RBC Bank and its predecessor organizations have operated for more than 110 years in Rocky Mount and area communities.

“RBC Bank is pleased to be a partner with RMECDC,” said Reggie Davis, president, RBC Bank. “We know that investing in community and economic development is a long-term and comprehensive proposition, and that’s why we have been pleased to support this organization for more than 20 years.”

Since its inception in 1988, Rocky Mount/Edgecombe Community Development Corporation, a non-profit organization, has served as an economic development engine, creating tax base, homes, new communities, infrastructure, jobs and has helped citizens of Rocky Mount, Edgecombe and Nash Counties to build a better quality of life by providing housing development, small business development, housing foreclosure mitigation counseling, and job creation.

RMECDC has served thousands of residents in obtaining and retaining home ownership, small business counseling and technical assistance, and assisted in recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Floyd; the organization has helped contribute to the employment of hundredths of jobs created through $30 million in community development (housing, commercial, downtown and neighborhood revitalization). RBC Bank, in partnership with RMECDC, helps support and finance these community economic development initiatives.
