RBC CENTURA COMMITMENT TO ROCKY MOUNT REMAINS STRONG

Bank Renews Five-year Lease for Rocky Mount Campus

RALEIGH, N.C., May 3, 2006 - RBC Centura Banks, Inc. has signed an agreement to retain its 166,000-square-foot Rocky Mount campus until at least 2011. The new lease begins June 1 and reaffirms the bank's commitment to the Rocky Mount area, which is the bank's operations headquarters housing various functions, including Operations & Service Delivery, Information Technology, Marketing and Human Resources, among others.

The RBC Centura Rocky Mount Campus is comprised of six buildings located at 1417 Centura Highway. The bank first signed the lease for the space in May 2000 and, after up-fitting the location to meet its needs, moved into the building in the summer of 2001.

"Rocky Mount has been the bank's home for more than 100 years, and by renewing our lease we hope to send a strong message that RBC Centura continues to be committed to this community," said Ron Day, RBC Centura chief operating officer. "RBC Centura contributes to the economic health of Rocky Mount by employing nearly 1,200 people in the area and by actively participating and investing in community organizations."

RBC Centura is involved in local organizations such as Communities in Schools, the Boys & Girls Clubs, Carolinas Gateway Partnership, the Nash/Edgecombe Community Development Corporation, Teach for America, the Young Professionals Network and many others.

"There's no questioning that we love this community, and we're proud to call it home," said Rusty Edwards, RBC Centura regional president of Personal & Business Banking for eastern North Carolina and Virginia. "Our ongoing partnership with Rocky Mount and its surrounding communities is not only important to the bank for business reasons, but is built on our personal relationships, as well."
