RBC CENTURA APPOINTS BLAKE COULES CEO AND MANAGING DIRECTOR OF RBC BUILDER FINANCE

Bank taps internal executive to lead Builder Finance business

RALEIGH, N.C., and HOUSTON - Feb. 1, 2007 - RBC Centura today announced Blake Coules as CEO and managing director of RBC Builder Finance, the bank's Houston-based, $4 billion residential construction financing arm. Coules replaces Drew Putt, who has been named president of RBC Centura Bank reporting directly to Chairman and CEO Scott Custer.

As CEO and managing director, Coules will guide RBC Builder Finance's overall strategy and operations across the bank's Southeastern footprint and nationally. He will also manage the business's future growth and favorable returns.

"I am pleased to leave RBC Builder Finance in highly capable hands," said Putt. "Blake's multi-disciplinary background includes producing, evaluating, managing and delivering business, which uniquely positions him for this key leadership role. In addition, he brings a deep passion for the business given his history with RBC Builder Finance."

Coules will be based in Houston after a 23-year banking career in various operational, business and risk roles, including nearly four years leading the Builder Finance business in Toronto during which time the business experienced double-digit revenue and asset growth. He most recently led the Commercial Risk team at RBC Centura.

"Growing the RBC Builder Finance business is an integral part of the bank's overall strategic direction, and Scott Custer and I have the highest confidence in Blake's ability to lead Builder Finance," Putt added.

Over the past six months the bank has experienced rapid growth with the addition of Flag Bank to its Georgia network, its AmSouth acquisition in Alabama and ongoing de novo growth.

"The growth we are experiencing makes this a very exciting time at RBC Centura," said Custer. "Our revised management structure is necessary to support and enhance our continued growth in each of our markets."

A native of Toronto, Coules earned a degree in commerce from the University of Toronto and he volunteers his time as a coach with the Raleigh Youth Hockey Association.

Before leaving her role as CEO and managing director of RBC Builder Finance to assume responsibility for RBC Centura's Personal and Business Banking network, Commercial Markets, Specialty Sales groups, Mortgage, Commercial Real Estate and RBC Builder Finance business, Putt made significant improvements around alignment, performance and stronger integration of RBC Builder Finance into the bank. She will relocate her family from Houston to Raleigh, N.C., to serve as bank president.
